Ryder Cleared
Essendon ruck woes was given a slight fillup as Patrick Ryder beat his striking charge at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night. The AFL Match Review Panel offered the Bombers only available ruckman a one-match ban for rough conduct against Adelaide’s Patrick Dangerfield and the club risked a two-week suspension if last night’s AFL Tribunal challenge failed. “My intention was to lay a shepherd, just run in with my arm and (hit) his arm and shoulder,” Ryder said. Essendon’s football operations manager Paul Hamilton said the club was confident of beating the charge. “We’re a bit low on rucks at the moment, as you saw on the weekend, but we’re really pleased with the decision and believe Patty Ryder’s a very fair player and he has been his whole career. “We were confident going in because we believed his action was reasonable, we knew what his intent was and … whilst it was considered a risk because it would have been two weeks without a ruckman of any sort, we didn’t think it was, in the overall scheme of things.” »

Bendigo Win! (A Quarter)
By Macca87 Anyway just returned from Windy Hill after a very cold & wet afternoon. A fairly good turn out despite the conditions and were quite vocal after the rare Bomber goals. It was also ridiculously dark in the second half, particularly at the start of the last quarter – unsure why they didn’t get the yellow footballs out or put the lights on. Bock can’t play AFL this season – so raw and rarely got the ball. He spent time in the forward line in the first quarter and looked out of it and could not get any clean ball. Has a massive amount to learn. Myers was disappointing and made some critical errors but his intensity at the contests could not be questioned. I think he is one of those players who would look much better in a more competitive side, which Bendigo clearly isn’t at the moment. All bias aside, Welsh was CLEARLY our best player. Doubt he would of got massive numbers possession wise but looked head and shoulders above the others on the ground when it came to poise and intensity at the contests. He’d be a very likely inclusion for the Melbourne game. Daniher was OK, well would of been one of our better players out of a fairly poor bunch today. Like Myers though, would probably prosper more in a better side. Surprised to read Atkinson’s name in the best players – was OK but nothing special. His game would certainly not warrant a recall to Essendon. Tyson Slattery appeared to injure his leg during the final quarter but went back on the ground at the end of the last without much obvious discomfort so it cannot be too serious. I’ll conclude by saying that Ricky Dyson’s girlfriend, Cara, is a total stunner. That is all. Round 11 - Adelaide Match Preview
By TDSpartan A Chris Brown/Rihanna style beating has seen the Essendon Football Club planted firmly on the back foot on the verge of round 11, but we must forge our way onwards against the Body Barrel Crows this Sunday afternoon at Jihad Stadium. 5 wins, 5 losses, and a percentage that is slipping dangerously close to Brendan Fevola’s IQ. After 10 rounds we find ourselves in Richmond’s much cherished position of 9th. But this is not Richmond. Essendon has never accepted mediocrity, and never will. The red and blacks absence from action in September has been far too long. Will our glorious leader Matthew Knights lead us into September for the first time since 2004? Or will the lands proudest club once again be forced to watch the business end of the year from the sidelines? Time will tell. One thing is for sure though, if we want to stamp ourselves as a legitimate finals contender, this is the type of game that needs to be won. »

From The Armchair #16 - Hird Will Never Coach Essendon
By No32 So many talk about James Hird being the next coach of Essendon, our favorite son, No.3 all time selected “Essendon Champions” behind Dick Reynolds and John Coleman (who both happened to coach the club to great success during their time). James Hird will not coach Essendon Football club…WHY? you may ask yourself. The reason is because Essendon doesn’t have the culture of cut and run. Matthew Knights has been Essendon Football Club coach for what will be 33 games after this weekend, which represents the halfway mark in his contract. His current achievements have been a new and exciting brand of football, once which can really blow teams away. Of course at the moment it’s been from being well behind on the scoreboard, wait until we get out starts right. It is attractive football, he is teaching the players to play surge football, running, chasing and tackling…being competitive. Under Knights tuteledge and also his astute selections of Assistant coaches we are developing the next generation of Essendon Football Club leaders… Tayte Pears, Darcy Daniher, David Zaharakis, Patrick Ryder…. players flurishing under his willingness to “Back Them In”…to play HIGH RISK football. He has a battle plan, he has clear milestones and methodically is hitting those milestones. »
