Round 19 - Brisbane Match Preview
By BringBackBoris I have not learnt a lot about Matthew Knights this week but I have had much of what I already thought about him confirmed. In what has been a rough couple of weeks for the EFC that has seen the return of some of the Blitzes * ahem * less positive posters, our humble leader has been characteristically calm and focussed on the task at hand. He also proven to have a bit more Sheedy in him than meets the eye, with this weeks selection one of the most daring I have seen in many a moon. About time too, as after the past few weeks changes have to be made. The loss to Richmond was one of the most disappointing I have ever had the misfortune of witnessing in the flesh. We suffered through some bad ones in 2006 but the fact is our team was rubbish and rudderless, against Richmond with everything to play for we didn’t turn up to play. Our effort against West Coast was much improved and I am certain had we played like that against Richmond we would still be in the 8. The fact is the Coasters are tough cookies to beat at home and never gave us the chance to work ourselves back into the match after yet another wasteful start. »

Lloyd & Winderlich Ruled Out
Essendon have ruled out skipper Matthew Lloyd and midfielder Jason Winderlich for this Saturday nights AFL Round 19 clash against the Brisbane Lions this week, but are optimistic of regaining Alwyn Davey and Mark McVeigh. “Lloyd’s come along quite well, but I would have thought this week would be close to out of the question, considering we’re [playing] on Saturday night,” Bomber coach Matthew Knights said on Tuesday. “Davey and McVeigh will be up for selection and we’ll have a look at them this afternoon. Both those boys are right in the mix to come in – I would have thought Alwyn would be a certainty – but we’ll have to see how Mark trains and then have a look at that this afternoon.” »
