Essendon midfielder Jobe Watson’s is expected to miss two weeks after scans revealed minor ankle ligament damage.
Watson injured his ankle early in the second quarter of Essendon’s 69-point win against Carlton last Friday night and, after returning to the match briefly, he eventually hobbled off and was unable to take any further part in the game.
Essendon’s football operations manager Paul Hamilton said on Saturday that the news was “reasonably good” and the MRI scans yesterday revealed there was no “major damage”.
“He’s got ligament damage and muscle damage around that ankle area. So he’s got a couple of little things rather than one big thing, so he’s likely to miss two weeks,” Hamilton said. “That’s the doctor’s estimate at this stage. The MRI didn’t show any serious damage to a couple of the areas that we were looking for.”
